Freelancers on the Frontier

Third Expedition

Orn (SP?)

Kelvin (SP?)

The three adventurers head into the frontier in search of the one who waylaid and destroyed a party of Veronus' Pilgrims. They receive information that the perpetrator killed 6 of the holy men and then raised them from the dead to follow his(?) orders.

The party followed the river north where they came across a magus named Guthree studying a strange rune covered stone in the midst of a set of ruins. The group spoke with him and decided to make camp with him over night. In the middle of the night Prot saw Guthree in a fit of anxiety and investigated. The magus spoke three words and touched the stone causing the text to disappear the surface of the stone became pure black darkness. Guthree began to split down the middle as dozens of spider-like legs emerged and started to pull him open causing Prot to kick him backwards against the stone where Guthree disappeared. The group lined up defensively in anticipation of attack, but not was forthcoming.

In the morning, with the first light of dawn, the gash of darkness returned to it's normal rune covered surface and the party decided to move on. They crossed the river at the split and proceeded to the highlands where they discovered a group of three corpses. In the distance, while burying the dead, they spied 6 scared looking pilgrims wandering toward them…..

Second expedition
A doomed jaunt

The three companions left Brighton to seek out the location of a group of three giants who they heard had killed a company of mercenaries and made off with their treasure. Their journey toom them along the river north where they first discovered a strange walled garden of olive trees. They awoke it's thorned guardian that Keaton was able to skewer with a single blow and feasted on the abundance of olives. Moving on they made camp for the night and were attacked by a group of seven plagued bandits. Mastus led a counter ambush and with the help of Boog's powerful sorcery and Keaton's deft spear work, the party prevailed. The final bandit, before finalizing his own death, revealed they served "the crone".

After resting they proceeded to cross the rain swollen river at the split and moved north west into the hilly highlands beyond. As a storm moved in a strange sight befell them on a neighboring hillock. A group of 8 robed and hooded figures stood in a circle, arms raised to the sky and chanting in unison. Unable to control his need to please his patron, Mastus moved to engage them in combat. After they ignored Mastus' attempts at harming them with his bow, Boog released his choking cloud on them, prompting immediate retribution in the form of lightning. The party was overwhelmed almost at once, and their ruins were smitten upon the hillside.

Boog was left smoldering on the hillside, a tiny charred husk of that was once the hopes and dreams of all children

First expedition
Journey to the mountain top

Tikani and Tonk left Brighton to plunder an unknown temple beneath a cabin at the top of the highest peak of the mountains to the north. Along the way they were tempted by a voice in the night coming from a well, passed an abandoned village in the forest and eventually explored a ruined fortess at the river split. It was here after a brutal combat with a plague knight and his two vulture demon servants that the pair met their next party addition  Baroona. Their journey north resumed and was uneventful until a night time ambush by a pair of Powrie warriors who were easily dispatched by Tonk. The journey up the mountain was difficult due to the freezing weather at the high altitude but they pressed on. Needing rations, Tikani backtracked to a path of woods they previously bypassed where he was surprised by an old forester named Zeke…who he promptly shot and killed. The group continued on and discovered a cemetery at the peak, as well as a cabin. Inside the petrified wood of the cabin they found a large book of names and dates, as well as a plethora of spoopy things.

Descending into the temple they found a hallway of faces, a room of hands, a chapel to profane worship, the residences of the original priesthood, a torture chamber and a locked door. The door was eventually unlocked by the gift of a tooth from a corpse they found above in the snow. Beyond lay a large complex of tombs and another library where they picked up an eye piece allowing them to read the profane language of Duvan'ku that was written prolifically throughout the complex.

It was here that they decided to ascend back to the cabin to assess what they had found thus far. Led to the clock by a passage in a journal they found , Tikani removed an assortment liquid filled marbles from it and smashed them, releasing an entity that immediately possessed him and ran outside toward the cliff with intentions of suicide. Stopped by Baroona and then Tonk he fought off the possession. The entity then moved on to possess poor Tonk who then leapt into oblivion.

Following the loss of their compatriot the remaining pair returned to Brighton to sell their purloined goods and drink away the memory of that cursed place. Baroona would go on to return to the mountain in order to keep others from making the same mistakes they did.
